THE STORY BEHIND KARIN'S WORK
Karin Pattie is a private Transformation Advisor and creator of the RARE™ Framework, a structured approach that works beneath behaviour, where the deeper patterns shaping identity, leadership, relationships, and performance continue to operate.
Her work is the culmination of two paths that ran alongside each other for much of her life: the visible world of business, leadership, responsibility, and achievement, and a quieter exploration into the deeper forces that shape human experience and lasting change.
Over time, those two worlds became one.
The Business Years
Karin's foundation is in business.
From an early career in corporate marketing to later founding and building a high-end eveningwear business into a multi-million-dollar enterprise with three locations across Johannesburg and Pretoria, she experienced firsthand the demands of leadership, responsibility, and sustained performance.
Those years gave her a direct understanding of what sustained pressure does to people. Not only how they perform publicly, rather how they carry it internally. Who is genuinely steady, and who has simply learned to appear that way.
Her own business revealed something else. She watched what happened when people reconnected, even briefly, with a more natural and authentic version of themselves. The way they carried themselves changed, the way they made decisions changed and the way they related to others changed.
What fascinated her most was that, for many people, those shifts rarely lasted.
That question stayed with her.
The Parallel Path
Running alongside Karin's business career was a quieter, largely unseen path devoted to understanding how people change.
From her early twenties, she was drawn to the deeper forces shaping behaviour, identity, emotional patterns, and lasting transformation. While building her professional life, she was also studying across a wide range of disciplines, each offering a different perspective on what influences human experience and why lasting change can be so difficult to achieve.
For many years, these two worlds existed side by side.
What she observed in business gave greater meaning to her studies. What she learned through years of study brought greater understanding to what she had witnessed in business.
Eventually, they became one.
A Lifetime of Study
Over more than three decades, Karin has undertaken extensive training across counselling, psychology-informed approaches, cognitive behavioural therapy, narrative and solution-focused practice, family development therapy, breathwork, meditation, yoga, Reiki and Seichim, modern shamanic practice, reflexology, iridology, and other integrative approaches to human development and transformation.
Among the many influences that have shaped Karin's work was her study of Kiatsu Ho, an art evolved by Master Koichi Tohei, under Aikido Goshinkai International Founder Michael Paul Williams. Her training included Ki breathing techniques and mind-body coordination exercises, deepening her understanding of the relationship between mind and body and the role of awareness, presence, and alignment in personal transformation.
Rather than following a single discipline, she has spent her life exploring where science, philosophy, lived experience, intuition, and energy-based approaches intersect.
The RARE Framework
The convergence of Karin's business experience, decades of study, and years of direct work with clients ultimately became the RARE Framework.
RARE stands for: Review · Accept · Release · Empower
The framework reflects a lifetime spent exploring human transformation from multiple perspectives and the recognition that insight alone does not always create lasting change.
Rather than focusing on behaviour alone, RARE works at the level beneath it, where the deeper patterns shaping identity, relationships, leadership, decision-making, and performance continue to operate.
As those deeper structures are understood and transformed, the patterns they generate begin to change naturally. The result is more than different behaviour. It is a different way of experiencing life.
Numala
As demand for her work grew, Karin established Numala, a private retreat environment created for individuals undertaking deeper transformational work.
For more than a decade, she worked closely with clients in that setting, guiding them through the RARE Framework while continuing to deepen and refine her work through direct observation and experience. People arrived from different industries, backgrounds, and stages of life. Yet beneath those differences, Karin observed something remarkably consistent.
The same underlying patterns appeared again and again.
Different stories. Different circumstances. The same deeper structures shaping how people experienced themselves, their relationships, their work, and their lives.
Those years gave Karin the opportunity to apply the RARE Framework across hundreds of hours of client work, deepening her understanding of the patterns that shape meaningful personal and professional change.
The Work Today
Today, Karin works privately with a select number of individuals each year.
Her work draws together everything that came before: a lived understanding of business and responsibility, more than three decades of study, and years of direct experience helping people understand and transform the patterns shaping their lives.
The work is private, deeply personal, and shaped around the individual.
At its heart is a return to greater alignment between who a person is, how they live, and the place from which they make decisions, lead, relate, and move through the world.
That is where this work begins.
